Cliff top car dump

When Vernon RCMP received a call about a vehicle rolling down an embankment in Noble Canyon, they called search and rescue for assistance.

And upon arriving on the scene, they found more than one vehicle down the bank.

According to RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk, there were seven or eight other vehicles down the gully, located near Highway 6 and Grey Road in Coldstream.

He says a witness saw a car barrel roll from the top of the cliffs, roll about 10 times, become airborne, and land in the gully below where he could not see it. The witness did not see anyone ejected from the vehicle, nor did he see other vehicles at the top of the cliff.

Sixteen ground members of Vernon Search and Rescue, along with four members of the helicopter winch rescue team also responded. They were lowered into the ravine – believed to be roughly 300 feet deep – and located the vehicle. No one was found inside the vehicle nor in the surrounding area.

Officers at the top of the bank found the path of the vehicle and learned it was a Mazda minivan with no license plates. It was alongside other vehicles, all without license plates or vehicle identification numbers.

Police believe the vehicles had been sent down the slope intentionally.

The investigation continues.
