Coldstream, CUPE ratify deal

The District of Coldstream and members of CUPE Local 626 have ratified a new five-year collective agreement.

The contract is retroactive to Jan 1, 2014 and runs through Dec 31, 2018.

The new agreement will see incremental wage increases of 8.5% over the term of the five-year agreement.

Additionally, the agreement contains small adjustments to existing benefits and improved language.

“This Agreement provides a reasonable balance between fair compensation and longer-term cost certainty for the community,” says Mayor Jim Garlick.

“Council would like to thank the hard work of both negotiating teams in reaching this settlement.”

This agreement comes on the heels of five-year deals agreed to in Vernon and Penticton.

CUPE employees in Kelowna are still without a new contract.

That agreement expired at the end of 2013.

Mediation efforts back in the summer failed to bring the two sides together.
