Man with weapon at casino

Reports of a man with a weapon at Lake City Casino in Vernon resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old Vernon resident late Friday.

RCMP officers responded to a call about a disturbance at the casino just after 11 p.m.  Witnesses thought the man causing the disturbance had a handgun.

When police arrived the man was nowhere to be found.

“The male suspect who was seen with the weapon left the area before police arrived," said RCMP media liaison Gord Molendyk. Following tips from witnesses who said the man was heading to a downtown bar, police quickly located his vehicle.

On the ground beside one of the wheels they found a Taser.

Molendyk says the man came out of the bar and "returned to the car where he was arrested for possession of a weapon".

The suspect has been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
