Manhunt on after shots fired

UPDATE 10:30 A.M.

A manhunt is still ongoing in the area in and around Polson Park in Vernon this morning (Tuesday) after police received a report of shots fired shortly before 8 a.m.

RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says police received the report of shots fired near the Fruit Union Plaza and the Green Valley Motel by Highway 97 and Highway 6.

"Individuals took off running so we flooded the area," says Molendyk.

"We have the helicopter up, dogs and we continue to follow up on that investigation."

Molendyk says it does not appear anyone was injured.

"There was a report it started at the Fruit Union Plaza and went into Polson Park and the Green Valley is involved," says Molendyk.

"We are not 100 per cent sure whether it came from Green Valley into the park...but all three are involved."

Police continue to talk to witnesses and are trying to locate the suspects.

RCMP have a section of Highway 97, at the bottom of Hospital Hill in Vernon, under surveillance as they hunt for a suspect Tuesday morning.

A witness says the officers were chasing several men down the highway after an incident at the Green Valley Motel next to Polson Park.

The suspects may be in the ravine that runs along a creek in Polson Park.

People are asked to stay clear of the area.

An employee at the motel says whoever the police are chasing were not registered guests, and that a sniffer dog tracked the scent to the motel parking lot.

Police are still on scene, and no arrests have been made at this time.
