Anonymous cards make day

Vernon RCMP officers have their heads held high and smiles on their faces today after several thank you cards were randomly left on their cruisers.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says the officers and staff of the Vernon Detachment would like to thank the 'anonymous grateful citizens of Vernon' for making their day.

“You know who you are, but we don’t. That is what makes the cards so special,” says Molendyk.

At least five cards in envelopes were discovered on July 11th and 12th when several officers went out to their marked police cars and found the cards on their windshields.

“Your kindness is very much appreciated by our members who found them on their cars that day. They do not always find such a pleasant message left on their vehicles. I am sure it brought a smile to their face because they hung them up on our bulletin board for all to see,” says Molendyk.

He says the card makers took time to personalize each one with stickers of flowers, butterflies and teddy bears.

“It was almost like perhaps a child of some age was involved in making them,” smiles Molendyk. “They just said thank you from the grateful citizens of Vernon.”

Molendyk says they have no idea what prompted the cards and they have no idea who left them behind.

“It is a neat little gesture and we really appreciate it. That someone would have taken the time to anonymously put the cards out,” adds Molendyk.

They know at least five cards were left as they have them in the office but there could have been a few more taken home by individual members.
