Car crash cuts deer in half

A Victoria man had to catch a bus home after crashing into a deer with enough force to cut the animal in half.

On June 28, Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 1 in Blind Bay.

The driver of the vehicle had struck a deer that was crossing the highway.

The head of the deer penetrated the windshield, striking the driver and ended up on the passenger seat beside him.

The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over to the shoulder.

Luckily the man only suffered some cuts and bruises and ended up taking a bus back to Victoria. The windshield of his Toyota Corolla was smashed in, although according to RCMP the vehicle was not a total write off.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident. RCMP said they don't believe the man was speeding in the 100 km/h zone at the time of impact.

There were no skid marks around the scene, indicating the man had no time to brake before making impact with the unfortunate deer.
