Sheriff's vehicle torched

UPDATE 3:30 P.M. - Vernon RCMP hope to speak with a person of interest in connection with a fire Thursday evening set beneath a Sheriff's vehicle.

An RCMP our officer was able to locate, and extinguish the fire before any major damage was done.

Police were able speak to witnesses in the area who advised they noticed a male wearing a grey hoody and black hat riding a bike away from the courthouse a short time before the fire was noticed.

The investigators have been able to locate some images of a person of interest and are asking the public if they can recognize who this person might be.

On Thursday night someone tried to set a Sheriff's vehicle on fire.

The Vernon RCMP received the call at about 10:40 p.m., the vehicle was parked near the Court House on 27th St.

When police arrived they noticed a small fire burning beneath the rear bumper of one of the vehicles. The officers were able to extinguish the fire before any major damage was done to the vehicle. It appears that a bag of garbage was placed under the bumper and it was set on fire.

Witnesses say a male wearing a grey hoodie, black hat and riding a bike was noticed pedalling away from the scene a short time before the fire was noticed.
