Woman dies after collision

A Salmon Arm woman has died after two cars collided Monday afternoon on Hwy. 1.

At 2:02 p.m. police responded to an accident at the intersection of Hwy. 1 and Hwy. 97B just east of Salmon Arm.

“Investigation to date has revealed a 2013 Ford Fusion was westbound on Hwy. 1 intending to turn left onto Hwy. 97B. The Fusion turned into the path of an eastbound 1995 Toyota Camry resulting in the head-on collision,” explained RCMP Cpl. Wasylenki.

The driver of the Fusion received minor injuries however his passenger and wife, a 65-year-old Salmon Arm woman, passed away in hospital.

RCMP say she was experiencing chest pain just prior to the collision and was transported to hospital, but efforts to resuscitate her were not successful.

The driver and sole occupant of the Camry received minor injuries.

RCMP believe all occupants were wearing their seat belts.

“Investigation of this incident continues by members of the Trans Canada East Traffic Services,” said Wasylenki.
