Backpacks full of drugs

The same bush party that sent a young man with a stab wound to hospital had police arresting another person for drugs.

When RCMP officers were made aware of the party on social media a road check was set up on Hwy. 6, at the bottom of the hill leading up to the party. Officers were looking for drugs and alcohol with minors.

“The operation checked approximately 35 vehicles driven by young adults, teens and a even a few driven by parents of teens as well,” said RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk.

Our officers issued seven violation tickets and six written warnings for traffic and liquor related infractions. A quantity of liquor, from minors, was also poured out at the road check.

But the big bust came in the form of a Hello Kitty backpack full of drugs.

“The bag contained a substantial quantity of individually packaged illicit drugs for sale. Those drugs included 200 grams of marijuana and six grams of crystal meth,” said Molendyk.

A 19-year-old Vernon man was arrested and RCMP are looking at the possibility of pressing charges for possession for the purpose of trafficking of controlled substances.

RCMP are warning that these parties are not safe and there are predators in attendance who want to sell drugs or hurt someone.
