A tragic accident has claimed the life of a 2 year old girl on Shuswap Lake.
Sicamous RCMP Constable Jim Harrison says two fishermen found the girl in the channel about 7:20 Monday morning. They tried to revive her while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
The girl was transported to hospital in Salmon Arm, where she was pronounced dead.
Harrison says the girl's family were on a houseboat vacation on the Shuswap. He says it appears the girl got up sometime after 5:30am, slid open a screen window, stepped onto the deck and went down a slide into the water.
The family was vacationing from the Belcarra on the Lower Mainland.
The RCMP and coroner's office are continuing to investigate, however Harrison says foul play has been ruled out. It's an "absolute tragedy," says Harrison.
