Boucherie Multiplex Construction WebCam

Regional District Press Release

You can keep an eye on the work at the Mount Boucherie Multiplex without setting foot near the construction site! That’s because a web camera has been set up on the Regional District website.

Communications Coordinator Bruce Smith says, “The camera has actually been working for a few months and has had hundreds of people checking it out. Now that construction is underway on the $8.9 million Multiplex project, we’re sure the camera will get even more visits, as there’s been tremendous interest in the 57,000 square foot expansion.”

Over the past few weeks, crews have been drilling large holes alongside the existing Jim Lind Arena, filling them with concrete and steel beams. Smith says, “They’ve been shoring up the existing arena and community hall foundation, as they prepare to begin construction of the Multiplex foundation. As well, geo-thermal drilling work is underway for the underground system that will store excess energy created by the new Multiplex ice plant.”

Smith adds, “With the recent awarding of the concrete form and supply contracts, you can expect to see a lot of construction activity around the site. In light of this, we’re asking patrons of the existing Jim Lind Arena and Mt. Boucherie Community Centre to be aware of increased truck traffic associated with the construction.”

This summer has been a busy one for the staff inside the Jim Lind Arena. Smith says, ”Not only have they used the off season to conduct regular maintenance work like cleaning and painting, but they are busy preparing the facility for its future connection to the Multiplex by building a new timekeeping/officials box and penalty boxes on the north side of the facility and rebuilding the player’s benches on the south side.” It’s anticipated the ice will be installed for the coming season over the next few weeks.

The Regional District is in charge of the construction and the budget for the Multiplex project. “With construction underway,” Smith says, “We anticipate providing regular updates on the project to the Regional Board, the media and public through news releases and updated information on the Regional District website as we move towards a March 2006 completion. Of course, anyone can check out what’s going on at the site by visiting the Mount Boucherie Multiplex webcam!”

The Multiplex expansion will see a second ice sheet at the Mount Boucherie
Complex, with seating space for 1,360 spectators, a year-round walking concourse, storage garage and additional on-site parking. The Canada-BC Infrastructure Grant Program contributed $2 million towards the total project budget of $8.9 million. The Mount Boucherie Expansion Society has several fundraising/donation programs underway to provide amenities such as theatre-style seating, a sound system, a sports floor and centre ice clock for the Multiplex.
