Body found near school

UPDATE MARCH 5, 3:20 P.M.

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who was found unresponsive in Vernon on Feb. 27.

He was Michael William Steward Kalinouski, aged 36, of Vernon. Mr. Kalinouski was found unresponsive in an outdoor area near the intersection of Okanagan Drive and South Vernon Drive on the morning of Feb. 27,

He could not be resuscitated. The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death. Foul play has now been ruled out.


UPDATE 11:30 A.M.

 

RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk says the case has now been turned over to the BC Coroner and no foul play is suspected. 

"The death is suspicious in the fact that we don't know how exactly the man met his demise, but the coroner's service will now determine that through their investigation," said Molendyk. 

An autopsy will be conducted and results are expected in the next few days.


ORIGINAL STORY Feb 27, 2014:

At about 9:35 this morning the Vernon RCMP received a call from a citizen who was out for a walk and discovered the body of a man off the Nka-kul-kem Trail system above Okanagan Landing Rd. near South Vernon Dr.

The body of the 36-year-old man was located a short way off the main walking trails that go up into the hill above Fulton School.

RCMP Spokesperson, Gordon Molendyk says, "We are in the early stages of this investigation. The police will continue to work with the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of death."

It is expected an autopsy will be conducted in the next few days.
