Man nearly freezes to death in park

A man was found extremely intoxicated and slowly freezing to death Friday evening in Polson Park.

On Jan 31 at around 11:20 p.m. RCMP were on foot patrol in the park when they found the 35-year-old man.

“The man had on inadequate winter clothing for the -16 degree weather at the time,” explained RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk.

“The man’s hands were ungloved and he was sitting exposed in the snow. When our officer found him he was barely conscience and extremely intoxicated.”

The man was rushed to Vernon Jubilee Hospital by ambulance where he was treated for hypothermia and frostbite.

“The man told the officer he thought he had been lying in the park for six hours before being found,” added Molendyk.

Hospital staff told the police officer that finding the man saved his life, telling him he would have died before the next morning had he not been found.
