7 p.m. update: The highway is now open.
The highway was also closed near Sicamous after a semi caught fire on a bridge.
DriveBC is reporting that Highway 1 is closed in both directions east of Salmon Arm due to a vehicle accident.
There are reports that a semi truck carrying a load of cattle has rolled over, and the other vehicle involved is a FedEx truck.
A detour is in effect via Highway 97A and 97 B. There is no timetable as to when the road is expected to reopen.
Earlier today, DriveBC was reporting compact snow and slippery sections in the area.
