Kelowna International Airport will serve as a 'welcoming committee' for teams, officials and sponsors for next year's Royal Bank Cup in Vernon.
The RBC Cup, the week long national Junior A Hockey Championship, will be held at Vernon's Kal Tire Place May 10 to 18.
In addition to providing financial support for the event, YLW will go out of its way to greet visitors warmly, says Jenelle Hynes, YLW marketing and median relations manager.
"Once we know exactly when the teams will arrive we'll set up a special welcome area for them and we'll do the same for fans, officials and Hockey Canada's sponsors and staff," says Hynes.
"Vernon's a huge part of our travel community. When an event of this magnitude happens we want to be part of it - to help welcome the RBC players, coaches and spectators to the Okanagan."
Hynes says visitor's first experience of the Okanagan comes when they land at YLW and "we want to ensure they get a great welcome."
"We'll ensure that our airline partners, our volunteers, the car rental people and everyone else in the terminal knows about the influx so we're all prepared to greet visitors."
