ATV smashes library window

An ATV driven by two women smashed through a plate glass window at the Okanagan Regional Library in Enderby Sunday night.

Cpl. Leeson with the Vernon RCMP said two officers were on Cliff Avenue dealing with an unrelated incident just after 11 p.m. when they saw the women, both in their thirties, drive by.

The officers turned to follow it and found the ATV crashed into the library building at 514 Cliff Ave.

"Both were taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with serious injuries. Alcohol was a factor in the incident and RCMP members are still investigating," Leeson said.

No charges have yet been laid.

Executive director of the Okanagan Regional Library Stephanie Hall said the ordeal was disappointing.

"Maybe they just wanted to borrow some books," she joked.

"(A staff member) started cleaning up in the middle of the night and the landlord came to help out."

The landlord soon installed a sheet of plywood over the window to help keep people safe. It could be at least a week before glass is replaced, Hall said.

Despite the excitement, the branch is still open for business as usual. There is a small area inside that has been closed off, but all collections are available.
