Aggressive driver targets cop

RCMP in Vernon had to deal with an aggressive driver following reports of a stolen truck.

After a tip from a resident they spotted the vehicle speeding on Hartnell Road on Saturday.

"The driver tried to run one of our officers off the road, but (the officer) pulled over onto the shoulder," says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

A spike belt was deployed a little further down the road but wasn't needed. "The vehicle crashed into the ditch at Hartnell and Dixon Dam just prior to where it was set up"

Two people got out of the truck and fled.

"A perimeter was set up by the police service dog unit, and one of our officers arrested one of the suspects and took him into custody," says Molendyk. The 21-year-old Vernon man had minor injuries and was treated in hospital.

Molendyk says the second suspect has been identified but hasn't been arrested.

"The file is still under investigation with possible charges being laid at a later date."
