Body of missing man recovered

The body of a boater who went missing over the weekend was recovered from Shuswap Lake Monday morning.

On August 17 at 8:38 a.m., the Sicamous RCMP received a report of a marine incident on Shuswap Lake at Hungry Cove.

The initial investigation suggested that a 45-foot vessel had crashed at around 9:30 p.m. the night before and the boats operator, a 51-year-old Calgary man, was missing and presumed drowned.

A second man was below decks when the crash occurred and was later safely recovered with two dogs from the crippled vessel. He was transported to the Kelowna General Hospital for treatment and remains in their care.

On August 18 the Sicamous RCMP with assistance from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended the scene and successfully recovered the body of the missing Calgary man.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Sicamous RCMP continue to assist the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.
