Original Story July 17

Vernon firefighters are still on the scene of a fire at 1904 44 Street.

The fire broke out shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday in one of the units of a four plex.

Fire officials say the unit has been destroyed as a result of the fire.

Deputy Chief, Jack Blair, says the fire appears to have started in the bedroom area of the upper floor of the townhouse unit.

"Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the building of origin without fire damage to the buildings next door," says Blair.

He says the RCMP and fire investigators are looking into the cause.

"Emergency social services are being called in to help residents of the unit and units next door who suffered water and smoke damage," says Blair.
