Boy gives life to others

12:50 a.m. update: In a message on Facebook the family of Miles Douglas Caston Wohlford says the youngster passed away at 8:52 p.m. Friday. The post states, "He honourably gave life to a minimum of six people through organ donation."

8 p.m. update: The family of Miles Wohlford has made the toughest choice any parents can make. They say due to Miles' grave prognosis they have taken their child off of life support that has been sustaining Miles since Saturday. They hope the events can accommodate Miles' wish to become an organ donor.

The Lund-Wohlford families thank the community for all of the prayers and messages of love and support sent to them and Miles in this most difficult time.

Family and friends are coming together with the community to support the family of a teenage boy critically injured in a boating accident.

14-year-old Miles Wohlford of Vernon was struck by a boat on the northern part of Okanagan Lake Saturday June 28.

He remains in critical condition at Kelowna General Hospital suffering from serious injuries including broken limbs and a head injury.

Friend of the family, Cindy Meissner, created the campaign and is asking for donations on the family's behalf.

“Please help us support Miles and his mom, Randi Lund, dad, Todd Wohlford, sister Taigan and brother Jayden. Miles and his family will have a very long road ahead of them and any support we can offer them will go a long ways to their recovery. We are hoping for several miracles along this journey,” wrote Meissner.

A short video piece including photos of Miles was also put together by his sister Taigan which you can watch above.

The fundraising website was launched July 1 and has already raised thousands of dollars.
