Cop car rammed

A suspect and an RCMP officer both received minor injuries after a man rammed a police cruiser trying to evade capture.

The incident began late Wednesday morning.  RCMP were pursuing a truck near the hospital with two people inside who might have been involved in a shoplifting incident at Buy Low Foods.

RCMP spokesman, Gord Molendyk, says officers then received a report the truck had been reported stolen out of Kelowna. The vehicle was heading south on Hwy. 97 and the Lake Country RCMP were advised.

Molendyk says the truck was eventually located, with two people inside, at Berry Road and Highway 97 in Lake Country.

"When the (Vernon) officers attempted to initiate a stop, the male driver rammed a patrol car in an attempt to flee," says Molendyk.

One of the officers and the suspect received minor injuries from the incident.

"The two suspects were arrested for Possession of Stolen Property, Mischief and Assault with a Weapon"

Molendyk says numerous items were recovered from the vehicle including food products from Buy Low Foods.

The truck was towed to Vernon.

A 31-year-old male, who provided a Kelowna address but has ties to Alberta and his 21-year-old female passenger with a Grand Prairie, AB address, remain in custody.

Both are expected to appear in court Thursday.
