Shots fired in Vernon

A man is in police custody today after officers found him at the scene of a possible shooting in Vernon.

Tuesday at about 1 a.m. Vernon RCMP responded to a report of gun shots being fired in the 3200 block of 22 Street.

“Police responded and their initial investigation determined there had been an altercation between two males who are known to each other,” explains RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

Molendyk says one man had already left the scene and the second man was arrested for an outstanding warrant on an unrelated matter.

“Police are continuing their investigation, including efforts to locate the second male, and want to assure the public that this incident does not appear to be a random act,” says Molendyk.

Vernon RCMP are asking anyone who may have heard the shots being fired or an argument in the area to please contact them at 250 545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222-8477.
