Mabel Lake Resort thanked

RCMP VIPs took time to thank the owners of the Mabel Lake resort on Friday.

North Okanagan RCMP Superintendent Burgess along with Inspector McNamara and Cpl. Leeson teamed up to thank the couple for their assistance during the wash out in May.

The officers presented owners Terry Laursen and Sharon Lancaster with a certificate of appreciation for helping the police and the community of Mabel Lake while access was cut off by the wash out.

“They did a lot by supporting us, making sure we had a vehicle and being of great support,” explained RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

The Mabel Lake Road washout left several hundred people trapped for several days, many without power or phone.

Two officers from the Vernon detachment were flown in by helicopter to the Kingfisher / Mabel Lake location where they set up a temporary base.

Molendyk says the members were provided a temporary 'cop' car from the owners to patrol the community behind the washout.
