Driver runs from sunken car

The driver could not be located after a sunken vehicle was discovered off Hwy. 6 over the weekend.

On May 24, at about 7:20 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a call about of a single vehicle accident in the area of Highway 6 at McIntyre Lake.

“The vehicle was described as partially submerged and there appeared to be no one with the vehicle,” explained RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk.

Officers with the K9 unit patrolled the area to rule out that any vehicle occupants were thrown from the car, no one was found.

“The area was strewn with empty and full beer cans that appeared to have come from the truck. Our officers completed the accident investigation and the vehicle was removed from the lake,” said Molendyk.

North Okanagan RCMP then contacted Nakusp RCMP to check the residence of the registered owner who lives in Fauquier.

The man was not home, but RCMP were able to contact him and confirm he was OK.

Although investigators were not able to prove that alcohol was a factor Molendyk says it is highly suspected in this case.
