Fire questions linger

The investigation into the motel fire in Enderby on March 22 still has the RCMP looking for answers and witnesses.

RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk says that the officers investigating this file are asking anyone who was in and around the area between about 5:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on the morning of Saturday March 22 to please call them.

“They believe that there was perhaps a few more people in and around the area that they may not have spoken to. They are asking anyone that was there or who has any ideas in relation to this file to give them a call,” said Molendyk.

The question still remains as to whether the fire was targeted and whether the lone woman victim endured some sort of prior assault or altercation before the fire was lit, something the RCMP are still unsure of.

“We know that she went into treatment for burns as a result of the fire and that the fire was contained to that unit. However, there is some discussion as to whether there was an assault, whether there was a fight in the parking lot in relation to that.. so we need to put all that together,” said Molendyk.

“We do believe there was two suspects and so anybody with any information is asked to give us a call.”

In addition police are asking anyone who was in the area or knows anything about who is responsible for causing the fire to call them at the Enderby or the Vernon Detachment or call Crime Stoppers.
