Coldstream beach fire

Fire crews were called late Saturday night to get a fire on Pumphouse Beach in Coldstream under control.

Coldstream Fire Chief, Shane Code says they were called by RCMP to extinguish the fire, on the beach off WestKal Rd., because it was significant in size and was threatening nearby trees.

The fire caught the attention of others in the neighbourhood. Patrick and Judy Hughes watched the activity from their home and said at one point around 11:30 p.m. they could see the fire jumping at a tree. In the morning they said there were a lot of ashes visible on the beach.

Despite all the activity, Code says they were able to get the fire under control in under 30 minutes with no problems encountered.

He adds RCMP are following up with the individuals who started the fire.
