Seatbelt be damned: tix 28

A Vernon man, adamant that it is safer to not wear your seatbelt behind the wheel, got his 28th ticket this past weekend.

That is 28, $167 tickets (at today's ticket price), for not wearing a seatbelt. Over the years the tickets add up to more than $4000.

The man told the officer who ticketed him that he feels it is better to not be restrained in a crash.

“That is a misconception believe me. Only a very very small percentage of individuals survive that are not restrained by a seatbelt in a crash,” said RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk.

Molendyk says the Motor Vehicle Branch has been made aware of the situation and now there is a possibility the man will face driving prohibitions from ICBC in the future.
