Remembering Patrick Nicol

The City of Vernon is seeking suggestions from the committee on a way to remember and honour Councillor Patrick Nicol.

Since Nicol passed away in January, the City has received countless stories of his kindness, generosity, love of this city and its people, and his unwavering commitment to making Vernon a better place for everyone.

Councillor Juliette Cunningham is heading a committee that has opened the question of the best way to memorialize Nicol to the people of Vernon.

Cunningham sat next to Nicol in Council sessions, and fondly remembers him as a man of the people.

“He was absolutely dedicated to the individual citizen and their right to be heard and informed,” she said.

In remembering Councillor Nicol, the committee is seeking suggestions that:

  • Reflect Councillor Nicol’s values
  • Can be accessed by the entire community
  • Build on existing City infrastructure.

The City has set up an online survey to collect responses from the public. The deadline for submissions is April 11, 2014.

Once all of the suggestions have been collected, an open house will be held in late April to discuss the submissions, at which point the public will be given a second opportunity to vote on selections to be brought forward.
