Ex-cop's child porn case goes to trial

A former Vernon RCMP police officer, accused of possessing child pornography, has been ordered to stand trial in BC Supreme Court.

Ryan Hampton's preliminary hearing wrapped up Tuesday.  The judge determined there is enough evidence to go through with the charges and ordered the 35-year-old Hampton to go to trial.

He faces nine charges, including possession of child pornography, obstructing a police investigation and breaching conditions.

Hampton was taken off duty as an RCMP officer after his arrest in June 2013, he then resigned from the force.

His next court appearance is April 14, to fix a trial date.
