Memorial service set for Patrick Nicol
Memorial services for City of Vernon Councillor Patrick Nicol will take place from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb 3, at the Trinity United Church in Vernon.
Because of the expectation that a large number of residents will wish to pay their respects to Nicol and his family - and because the church can only seat 900 people - the city is also looking at the possibility of providing satellite locations with a live video feed of the services. The city hopes to confirm these locations early next week.
Nicol was first elected as councillor in 1985 and was well known for his dedication to the citizens of Vernon and his passion for bringing their voices forward to Council.
He passed away on Jan 15 after a long battle with cancer.
“It is an honour to represent Vernon citizens,” Nicol had written for his bio on the City's website.
“Equally, it has been a team effort because the best ideas frequently are produced by the citizens I represent.”
