Okanagan Landing cougar sighting
Another cougar was spotted near an elementary school in Vernon, this time in Okanagan Landing.
Vernon RCMP were called to a cougar sighting in the 7200 block of Longacre Drive at 3:15 a.m. Monday morning.
RCMP Spokesman Gord Molendyk says it is a concern because this area is blocks away from Okanagan Landing Elementary, but in the same breath the area backs onto a hill that is normal territory for wildlife.
“Our officers did drive around, but could not locate the cougar,” said Molendyk. “It is not unusual to see a cougar in that area, but we did put out a warning as this is an area children walk to and from school in.”
Conservation officers are aware of the issue and will be monitoring the situation.
