Police files from the North Okanagan

Files of interest from the North Okanagan:

Police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed Nolan Pharmasave in Vernon on Sunday, just before 5 p.m.

According to RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk, the teller told police that a caucasian man approached the till and demand cash, an undisclosed amount was handed over and the man left.

The suspect is described as:

  • wearing a grey ball cap and black hood, which covered most of his face
  • wearing a black coat that went below his waist, blue jeans and brown hiking boots
  • of medium height
  • a having few days growth of a beard

The suspect was last seen headed west bound on 30th avenue.

Anyone with any information about this robbery or the suspect is asked to call the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Emergency responders concerned over the health of a locally known street person, helped to save the man's life.

On Dec. 23 just after 2 p.m.,  police were called to the area of 3300 Centennial Drive by the Ambulance service after a man refused service and started walking away.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the medical crew told police they were concerned because the man was staggering around the back alleys, and they had lost sight of him.

"One of our officers was briefed by the EHS attendants when he arrived in the area.  Our officer decided to make patrols as the temperature was low and he wanted to locate this man for his own well being," explains Molendyk. "As our officer went to talk to another street person to ask if he had seen the man near what is referred to as Duck Park. Out of the corner of his eye saw the person he was looking for fall into the creek and go in over his head. "

"Our officer quickly ran down the bank and with the assistance of a second officer they were able to drag him out of the creek."

The 55-year-old man could not have gotten out of the creek by himself due to his intoxication, says Molendyk.

The ambulance crew did a quick assessment of him and took him to hospital.

RCMP in the North Okanagan are reminding the public they will be out in full force patrolling during the New Year's celebrations this year, including the Silver Star area and roads throughout the North Okanagan.
