Vernon and North Okanagan News
Weekend crime report
RCMP officers in the North Okanagan had their hands full last week, attending to 23 different accidents on Friday.
Each incident was caused by treacherous road conditions and driver inattention either due to road conditions or driving too fast.
Also this past weekend, members of the North Okanagan Traffic Services conducted road checks throughout the Vernon area and five people were given various tickets ranging from 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions to 12-hour suspensions.
And officer’s responded to one report of a Scrooge in the area, after a vehicle was broken into Sunday morning. The theft occurred in the 4000 block of 29th Street where a box of presents and other personal items were stolen from a vehicle.
According to police, thieves smashed out the passenger window and stole the presents, which were in plain view. The police wish to remind everyone that thieves do not take days off or care that they steal Christmas presents. Owners should ensure they do not store gifts in their vehicle and take them home or keep them out of site.
