Amazing Grace a special needs dog

Grace is safe!

The 16-month-old pup was missing for 21 days.

Grace was found on a private property in Vernon.

BCSPCA Branch Manager, Suzanne Pugh who arrived in Vernon to collect Grace was overwhelmed with Joy when she saw the Lab Cross.

"Over the last three weeks we have been tracking her activity and knew that she kept returning to one specific location.  Working with the home owners we were able to set up a feed, water and shelter station, placing bedding in the shelter from her sibling, so that she recognized the scent of her brother."

The property owners even activated a security surveillance camera as they knew something was eating the food and using the shelter.

"As soon as we had video footage confirming that it was Grace and not a wild animal we were able to set up a humane trap Thursday morning at the property”.

Pugh had feared the worse for Grace, but was surprised to get a call so quickly to say that the plan had worked.

"Grace is a special needs dog and just prior to her escaping been placed into foster care in the area for socialization as she is very timid around people. "

Grace was taken to the Fairfield Emergency Hospital for a check up. Dr. Jenna had been waiting for Pugh to arrive and was aware of the situation.

"I am amazed she was in such incredible shape given her time out on the streets and the weather conditions," Dr. Jenna says.

"Our team worked very strategically to reunite Grace back to our staff and volunteers, having Grace back safe and well is the best Christmas gift ever” says Pugh.

Grace will now return to the Kelowna Shelter where her brother awaits. The hope is the two can be adopted to a forever home together.
