CN confirms interest in rail line
A number of interested parties have stepped forward to save the rail line that extends from Vernon and Kelowna, but CN Rail is being tightlipped about who they are or how many groups are interested.
The final day for submissions was Dec. 2 and while CN spokesperson Emily Hamer says no offer has been put forward, she does confirm they have received “some expressions of interest.”
Those groups now have until Jan. 30 to present conditional offers on the line.
In the meantime, the rail line will provide information such as a map of the railway and standard conditions for the acquisition, if they so choose.
In a Castanet poll on December 3, we asked:
Do you believe the CN Rail line between Vernon and Kelowna will be saved? Of the 525 votes 346 said yes and 179 said no.
A group called the Okanagan Rail Trial is also scheduled to meet with Lake Country city council Tuesday evening in the hopes of transforming the rail corridor into a community asset.
