Two cats perish in mobile home fire
A fire early Sunday morning fire claimed the lives of two cats.
Vernon Fire Department says they received a call at 8 a.m. that a mobile home was on fire in the Sandy Beach Mobile Home Park on Tronson Road.
"Our crews arrived to find a fully engulfed mobile home and took action to suppress it," says Vernon Deputy Fire Chief Lawrie Skolrood.
The two people who lived in the home were able to get out safely before fire crews arrived on the scene.
They were both OK and only suffered minor smoke inhalation, but Skolrood says their two pet cats perished in the fire.
He adds that social services were on scene and have looked after the occupants.
The current cause of the fire is unknown.
Skolrood says the Vernon Fire Department will not be doing an investigation on the cause as this fire occurred on band land and therefore it falls onto the RCMP to do the investigation.
