Hwy. 97 crash victim update

October 8 12:00 p.m. Update: A 38 year old Vernon woman remains in critical condition at Kelowna General Hospital after yesterdays terrible Hwy. 97 head on crash.
The driver of the other vehicle a 20 year old man was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Distracted driving was a rumour surrounding the cause of the crash which has not been confirmed by RCMP, but they do need more witnesses to come forward.
"Traffic Services Investigators are asking anyone who has not spoken with police and witnessed the accident or driving behaviour of either vehicle to contact the Vernon RCMP Detachment @ 250-545-7171," says RCMP Cpl. Gerry Kovacs.
The accident remains under investigation by North Okanagan Traffic Services and Collision Reconstructionist.
1:00 p.m. update: The accident has been cleared away but according to RCMP Cpl. Gerry Kovacs the highway will remain single-lane alternating so that Traffic Collision Analysts can investigate the crash.
Both injured parties are in hospital and their conditions are still unknown.
12:23 p.m. update: DriveBC says Highway 97 is all clear and traffic is moving again after the route was shut down for several hours because of a head-on collision early Monday morning.
The RCMP report:
Shortly after 8:30 this morning officers from the Vernon/North Okanagan detachment responded to a serious two vehicle accident on Hwy. 97 near Bailey Rd. south of Vernon. Two single occupant vehicles collided head-on and the two drivers have been taken to Hospital for treatment of their injuries. One driver was taken to Vernon Hospital the other to Kelowna General. The severity of their injuries is not known at this time.
The cause of the accident is unknown and the RCMP Collision Analyst has been called to assist North Okanagan Traffic Services with their ongoing investigation.
10 a.m. update: DriveBC reports that traffic is moving again on Hwy. 97, after the crash near Crystal Waters Road. A Lane closure is in effect, expect minor delays.
A serious motor vehicle accident has closed Hwy. 97, in both directions, south of the Predator Ridge turn-off.
At least two vehicles were involved.
There is no word on the extent of injuries at this time.
Emergency crews are on scene, the estimated time of opening is at 1 p.m.
Traffic is backed up for several kilometres.
DriveBC reports that a detour in effect at Bailey Rd., it reconnects to Highway 97 at Oceola.
