Rocktober? NOT!

A Rock Tradition is about to be smashed!  The month of October has always been seen as the month when most Rockers release new material.  This is about to change, as now it seems that the beginning of the New Year is taking over that distinction!  January and February are now the time period when lots of new music is being released, from new Rockers and Veterans.  As we approach the beginning of 2014, I have received many more press releases dealing with Artists releasing new adventures in the first two months of the year than I received in October!  I have already written about “Primal Fear”, “Ring Of Fire”, and “Red Dragon Cartel”—all to release in January and February.  Out of the many releases that I have received, here are a couple that stand-out—making January and February of 2014 to be an exciting time indeed!

“House Of Lords”, that long-time progressive melodic rock band of minstrels, will unleash a ‘back-to-form’ album; “Precious Metal”.  James Christian, (see earlier column), has gone back to his roots on this effort.  “Precious Metal” is ‘House Of Lords’ ninth studio album, and in his own words…Mr. Christian says: “When we started to write this record, we knew after the first song that we were on to something special!”  The band saw their first light in 1989, with their self-titled debut, which featured not only James Christian, but musical master Gregg Giuffria, ex-Angel keyboardist.  The group journeyed forth and along the way, Gregg retired, but the essence of “House Of Lords” has stayed true to the direction set by both him and James.  In 2006, James continued to polish the sound of House Of Lords, and armed with a new line-up, produced such beautiful and hard hitting albums such as “Come To My Kingdom”, “Cartesian Dreams” and their recent “Big Money”.  However, this time around, the group have touched upon their roots-more so than in recent years.  “Precious Metal” is Epic in proportion, and promises to be a music lover’s dream!

2012 and 2013 were great years for “Heart”!  Inducted to the Rock Hall of Fame, and basking in the light of their most recent album of new material-“Fanatic”, this critically acclaimed group are not resting, no 2014 will see a continuation to the ‘Fanatic’ tour across much of the world, and the brand new release of “Live From Caesar’s Colosseum”!  Again, this release will see the light of day in February.  Taken from Heart’s appearance at this Windsor, Ont. venue—you will see a re-engerised group, not only performing past glories, but brand new material!  This release also marks the group’s debut for Frontiers’ Records.  Of course, we in Canada have adopted “Heart” as our own, so it is very nice to see that the Wilson sisters considered one of their Canadian shows to be the centre piece of this beautiful in concert document!  Heart’s Canadian connection has been further strengthened by the fact that Ben Mink, an accomplished Canadian musician produced last year’s “Fanatic” album!  Ben even appears on the DVD—however you’ll have to buy it to find out in what capacity!!

These are just two of the many releases that are set to find their way in to music stores all across Canada, in both January and February of next year!  We will look at more as the weeks progress towards 2014!
