UBCO Heat claim CCAA golf title
Oct 19, 2012 / 3:45 pm
The UBC-Okanagan Heat women's golf team have claimed the 2012 Ping CCAA National Championship.
The team of Jen Woods, Jessica Kozak and Alana Kent led the tournament from start to finish, although they posted their worst round of the tournament on Friday.
Four other schools bested their third round score of 174, but none were able to make up the Heat's 15 stroke lead after day two.
In the end, their three day total of 501 was good for a one shot victory over Holland College. Grant McEwan University was third.
Individually, Woods led all Okanagan golfers with a fourth place finish. She fired a final round 83 at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club to finish with a 54 hole score of 240.
Kozak's final day 91 left her at 264 and alone in thirteenth place. Kent fired a final day 94 and finished in a tie for 14th.
The women's event was won by Valerie Tanguay of Champlain-St. Lawrence, who rallied for a five shot win after a final day 5-under 67.
The men failed to qualify for the team event, but still managed to place both of their entrants in the men's individual event in the top 10.
William Deck followed a pair of 74s with a final round 73, to finish at 5-over for the tournament, tied for seventh place.
Coltain Kalkanis of Georgian College claimed the title with a three day total of 217.
Cody Bell's final round 75 left him tied for tenth, just one stroke behind Deck.
