Bell tolls in Rockets victory
Myles Bell continue to feast on opposing goaltenders.
Bell, normally a defenceman, has made the most of time on right wing with the Rockets top line scoring two more goals Thursday in Kelowna's 3-0 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars.
With 9 defencemen on the roster, head coach Ryan Huska moved Bell up front. All he has done is produce playing alongside captain Colton Sissons and newcomer Dylen McKinlay.
Bell wired a one-timer past Mac Engel with nine seconds left in the second to put the Rockets up 2-0 then potted an insurance goal 34 seconds into the third.
He now has a team leading eight goals and 19 points. Bell has four goals and 12 points in his last five games.
Colton Sissons with a shorthanded penalty shot in the first period also scored for the Rockets.
Sissons' goal came against the run of the play as the Cougars came out and dominated much of the first period.
"I thought Prince George carried the bulk of the play in the first period," says Huska.
"When Jordon bailed us out - we got better as the game wore on."
Cooke faced 14 shots in the opening period before the Rockets picked up their game over the final 40 minutes.
The Cougars outshot the Rockets 32-26 over the course of the game to earn his second shutout of the season.
Cooke and the defence corps were also sharp in killing a pair of five-on-three disadvantages, including more than a minute just after Sissons opened the scoring.
While the Rockets have filled the net early in the season with 41 goals over 11 games, they have begun to tighten things up a bit defensively.
The Rockets have allowed just four goals over the past three games.
Kelowna play their second straight game at home for the first time this season Saturday when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings.
