Okanagan Sun squeak into playoffs
The Okanagan Sun will participate in post season play as the BC Football Conference's number four seed.
The Sun punched their ticket to the playoffs Saturday with a 36-0 win in Chilliwack while the Westshore Rebels were winning 37-22 in Kamloops.
While the 2-7 Broncos can match the Sun with three wins with a win over Chiliwack next weekend and a Sun loss to Langley, Okanagan would still get the playoff berth by virtue of two wins over the Broncos this season.
In Chilliwack, after a scoreless first quarter Robbie Yochim returned a punt 85 yards to get the Sun on the board.
It was the first kick return for a touchdown this season for the Sun.
A second Yochim touchdown off a punt return later in the quarter was snuffed out because of a penalty.
The Sun grabbed a 14-0 lead when quarterback Cam Bedore hooked up with Jesse Kendall on an 85-yard pass and run.
Kicker Steve Shott, who has played just two games over the past two seasons after having back surgery more than a year ago returned to the line-up and converted both first half majors.
Back-up quarterback Austin Komonoski also got into the act Saturday throwing his first career BCFC touchdown to receiver Dillon Fortune.
The Sun close out the regular season at home to Langley next Saturday at 2 p.m. before opening the BCFC playoffs on the road in Nanaimo the following weekend.
