The UBC Okanagan Heat used a 35 point third quarter to bring down the high flying Langara Falcons in a 92-84 pre-season basketball victory Friday night at Immaculata Regional High School.

The leading scorer for the Heat last year, Yassine Ghomari, a 4th year player out of Vancouver, torched his former squad for 19 points to lead the Heat to victory.

Ghomari was a BCCAA all-star with the Falcons during the 2009-10 season.

The Heat trailed 41-34 at the half with Ghomari only tallying two points.

However, the veteran guard broke out in the third quarter and pushed the Heat into a lead halfway through the frame that they would not relinquish.

Ghomari’s back court mate, Landry Ndayitwayeko put in for 16 points, with forward Dave Mackay adding 11 points and leading the team with eight rebounds.

The Heat will not play again until they head to Calgary to play in a tournament at Mount Royal University from October 11-13.

The Heat will have then have two more exhibition games at home when they host York University at UBC’s Okanagan campus on Thursday October 18 and Montana State-Northern on Sunday October 21.
