Owls fly high in tournament opener
Mitch Goodwin was dominant for the KSS Owls at both ends of the floor as the hosts got off to a flying start at the annual Interior Saving Western Canada Basketball Tournament at KSS.
Goodwin hit for a game high 29 points and added six steals leading the number one ranked Owls to a convincing 86-47 victory over St. Francis Browns out of Calgary.
The Owls jumped out to a 20-14 first quarter lead then blew the game open outscoring the Browns 26-11 in the second quarter for a 46-25 lead at the break.
Goodwin hit on seven of 11 from the field and four of six from three point range.
6'11" centre Braxston Bunce added 11 points and 14 rebounds.
The Owls will now take on number two ranked Pitt Meadows in Friday night's semi-final.
The Pitt Meadows Marauders won their opener, beating Balfour Collegiate from Regina 69-49.
Trevor Seversinski was a one man wrecking crew for the Marauders, pouring in 36 points and grabbing 22 boards. Seversinski also hit seven-three pointers.
On the other side of the draw, White Rock Christian will take on Harry Ainley Titans out of Edmonton in the other semi.
White Rock defeated Kitsilano 74-70 in one opening round game while Harry Ainley dumped Tamanawis Wildcats 78-58.
The semi's are set for Friday night with the finals Saturday evening.
