Graham off to golf hall

There will be a distinct Kelowna flavour when the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame welcomes its 2018 class.

Kelowna native Gail Graham, a two-time winner on the LPGA tour, will be inducted along with Arthur Vernon Macan, the architect of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.

“Gail was both an accomplished player who transitioned to a successful post-playing career as a tournament and LPGA administrator while Macan’s deep contribution to golf course design including notable redesign efforts have become synonymous with excellence in golf course architecture," hall selection committee chair Sandra Post told Golf Canada.

Graham was a standout amateur golfer in both B.C. and Manitoba before joining the professional ranks.

During her time on tour, Graham also became involved in the executive side of the game, serving on the LPGA executive committee from 1994 to 1997 and from 1999-2002. She was president of the LPGA executive committee for two years as well.

Graham is currently president of the board of the Legends Tour. She was previously inducted into the Manitoba (2009) and B.C. (2015) golf halls of fame.

Born in 1882 in Dublin, Ireland, Macan emigrated to Victoria with his young family in the early 20th century.

An accomplished golfer, he designed what is now the Royal Colwood course in Victoria in 1913.

He designed many of the top clourses in the Lower Mainland over a five-decade career, including Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, Marine Drive Golf Club, University Golf Club and University Golf course in Vancouver and Richmond Country Club among others.
