Okanagan Olympic flavour

A pair of Okanagan athletes will represent Canada in biathlon at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Julia Ransom of Kelowna and Emma Lunder of Vernon were named to the 10-member team, Tuesday.

Ransom and Lunder were part of a four-woman team that finished eighth in an Olympic test relay event in Germany over the weekend.

The team was selected based on performance over the past two seasons.

Ransom had her best ever World Cup finish earlier this year, a ninth place in the women's 15-kilometre individual event.

Lunder had a World Cup career-best 18th place finish in a 10-km pursuit in Annecy, France, in December.

Canada has won three medals in Olympic biathlon, which combines cross-country skiing and shooting. The last medal came at the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway.

Several other Okanagan athletes are expected to be named to various Olympics teams, including Kelsey Serwa from Kelowna, Vernon's Kevin Hill and Justin Kripps of Summerland.

Vernon's Andrew Ebbett was previously named to Canada's men's ice hockey team.

The Olympic Games begin Feb. 9.
