Playoff hopes fly south

The Kelowna Falcons won't have a chance to play for a league title.

The Falcons playoff hopes came crashing to earth last night in a 2-1 loss to the Bellingham Bells.

The loss, their third in a row, officially eliminated the Falcons from post season play.

Kelowna opened the scoring Wednesday when Kevin Morgan drilled a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall in the sixth for his first home run of the season.

Bellingham evened the score in their half of the sixth then scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Falcons went down quietly in the ninth.

Blake Randazzo went seven strong innings for the Falcons, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out four.

The Falcons return home for their final series of the season beginning Friday against Walla Walla.

Meantime, it was announced this week the Falcons raised more than $7,000 last month during a charity game to benefit the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.

The money was raised through ticket sales, a 50/50 draw and corporate sponsorship opportunities.
