New leader at Gallagher's

There was a major shake-up atop the leaderboard during moving day at the GolfBC Championship at Gallagher's Canyon Golf and Country Club.

Dan McCarthy, the money leader on the MacKenzie Tour - PGA Tour Canada, holed out with a wedge from 103 yards out for eagle on the 18th hole to grab a two-shot lead after 54 holes.

The Syracuse, NY. native fired a third round 63 on the par 71 layout to sit at 18-under, 195 with 18-holes left to go.

“That was an unbelievable finish certainly. It was a good number, but you never expect to par one,” said McCarthy, who captured his first Mackenzie Tour win two weeks ago at the Freedom 55 Financial Championship.

Over three rounds, McCarthy has posted 18 birdies, an eagle and just two bogeys.

Ryan Williams of Vancouver is the top Canadian, two shots back after a six-under 65 Saturday. He's at 197 through 54 holes.

“There’s always a little bit more pressure the last day, and always a lot more to play for, so I’m just going to go out and play the best I can and hopefully it’s good enough,” said Williams.

Caleb Sturgeon, who led the field after the first two rounds, is alone in third at 15-under 198. Sturgeon shot a third round 69.

Sturgeon was out early Saturday morning to complete his second round. Darkness Friday halted play with Sturgeon standing on the 9th tee box, his final hole of the day.

A weather delay of nearly three hours Friday afternoon meant 29 golfers were unable to finish their second round Friday.

Williams and McCarthy will be paired together for Sunday's final round. They are scheduled to tee off at 12:15 p.m.

Sturgeon and French Polynesian native Vaita Guillaume will be featured in the penultimate pairing, teeing off at 12:05 p.m.

The closing ceremonies are slated for 4:30 p.m on the 18th green.
