Local UFC fighter in N.J.

Kelowna native Matt Dwyer will be fighting on the world's stage this weekend at UFC Fight Night in Newark, N.J.

Saturday's fight will be 26-year-old Dwyer's fourth fight in the UFC.

He first entered the promotion in October 2014, losing to since-undefeated Albert Tumenov.

Dwyer's subsequent fights have earned him two $50,000 bonuses, one for a Performance of the Night in his win against William Patolino and another for Fight of the Night in a decision loss against Alan Jouban.

Dwyer will face Randy Brown on Saturday, a 6-0 fighter who will be making his UFC debut.

Dwyer trains out of Toshido MMA in Kelowna, a gym that's seen its fair share of UFC fighters pass through the doors.

In addition to Dwyer, Shane Campbell and Sara Moras also fight in the UFC out of Toshido. No. 1 ranked UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald began his fighting career at Toshido before moving to Montreal.

Dwyer's fight is on Saturday's early preliminary card, which start at 12:30 p.m. and can be seen on the UFC Fight Pass streaming service.
