Falcons sweep top awards

The Kelowna Falcons success on the field has translated to success off it.

The Falcons swept the four major West Coast League awards announced Thursday morning, including MVP and top pitcher.

Shortstop Hunter Villanueva was named the WCL MVP while Brady Miller took home top pitcher honours.

Villanueva led the league in batting with a .378 average and was tied for the league lead in on-base percentage with teammate Justin Flores. He had 12 doubles, seven home runs, 33 RBI's and scored 37 runs.

Miller went 6-0 with a 2.18 ERA over 7 starts this summer. He struck out 23 while walking 15 over 37 innings of work.

Second year manager Billy Clontz was named WCL manager of the year.

Clontz led the Falcons to their most successful season in franchise history. The Falcons finished with a club record 34 wins while capturing their first ever East Division title.

The club was swept by the Bend Elks in the best-of-three WCL final.

Falcons' general manager Mark Nonis was named co-executive of the year.

Villanueva, Flores and Miller were also named to the league's first all-star team.
