Kelowna gold at Pan Ams

Kelowna's Will Dean has struck gold at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Dean is a member of the men's quadruple sculls rowing team. The quads led the race from start to finish, winning in a time of five minutes, 42.22 seconds.

The rest of the crew includes Matthew Buie of Duntroon, Ont., Julien Bahain of Sherbrooke, Que., and Rob Gibson of Kingston, Ont.

Dean, 28, was also a member of the Canadian men's fours, which finished ninth at the 2012 Olympics in London.

He joined the quad sculls in 2014 and helped the team capture bronze at the World Cup in Aiguebelette, France.

The gold medal was the third for Canada in rowing on Tuesday.

Liz Fenje and Katherine Sauks were victorious in the women's lightweight double sculls, and Carling Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., won gold in the women's single sculls.

Canada now has a total of five golds and two bronze medals in rowing.

Canada leads the medal count at the Games with 22 gold and 49 medals. The United States is second with 41 medals.
